Digital accessibility enables people with disabilities to participate in digital life on their own terms. At the same time, accessible web design plays a key role in ensuring a positive user experience and usability for your website. To create a successful accessible website, it is not only necessary to consider linguistic and visual aspects, but above all to meet technical requirements. Responsive design and intuitive navigation are essential and play a key role in determining how your website functions.

A website is accessible when it makes information available in a way that is understandable to all visitors, regardless of their mental or physical condition. This means that people with motor impairments, visual impairments or hearing impairments, for example, can easily consume the content of the website. Accessible websites are therefore not only an important step toward greater inclusion and equality, but also automatically increase your target audience, as more people can take advantage of what you have to offer.

While digital accessibility was previously regulated by the BITV 2.0 (Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance) and applied only to federal public bodies, the issue of accessibility will also become relevant for many companies in the future. The reason for this is the new Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG), which will take effect on June 28, 2025.
The BFSG aligns all existing accessibility regulations under the BITV, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and the Disability Equality Act (BGG) with the EU Accessibility Directive (European Accessibility Act). The aim of the law is to ensure the equal participation of people with disabilities, impairments, and older adults in digital services.

Accessibility affects us all. Although the BFSG focuses on people with disabilities, we all benefit from accessible digital services. Even temporary physical limitations, visual impairments, or simply poor reception require websites with easy usability, strong contrasts, alt tags, and many other accessibility features. Accessible websites enable everyone to participate equally in all aspects of daily life that take place online at any time, thereby contributing to an inclusive and non-discriminatory society.

Even though accessibility isn’t a direct ranking factor, Google rewards accessible websites. This is because accessible sites generally offer excellent usability, and the more user-friendly and accessible a website is, the better its ranking. At the same time, certain aspects of accessibility—such as simple and understandable text—help crawlers decipher and correctly categorize a website’s content.

With an accessible website, you expand your audience in two ways. First, you simply give more people access to your content and offerings; second, a high search engine ranking resulting from accessibility leads to greater visibility and more traffic to your site. The result: more visitors, more leads, and more conversions.
Based on your needs and goals, we’ll create a BFSG-compliant design for your new website. From the very beginning, we prioritize accessibility features such as an intuitive site structure and navigation, consistent use of HTML tags, and clear, easy-to-understand content. Our SEO specialists ensure that your content remains search engine optimized and that your pages achieve high rankings.
It’s not just the content—the look and feel also play a crucial role in a website’s accessibility. Our experienced designers create your pages with a special focus on ensuring good readability through proper text spacing, accessible fonts, and clear color contrasts. Images and dynamic elements such as videos are supplemented with ALT tags, captions, and audio descriptions to make them accessible to everyone.
Clean code lays the foundation for an accessible front end for your visitors and ensures optimal website performance. During the technical implementation of the concept, our specialized development team pays particular attention to responsive web design—which adapts to all devices—as well as reliable keyboard navigation. Once the staging environment is ready, your content can be migrated.
Even after the relaunch of your accessible website, we’ll continue to be there for you. In addition to providing technical support and maintenance, we’ll keep a close eye on both the legal landscape surrounding digital accessibility and your online marketing goals. Upon request, we can implement a long-term SEO strategy for you and create accessible landing pages and blog articles that reach a broad audience and provide value to your customers.
